Eleven new deaths in Gaza due to malnutrition bring the total number of deaths from hunger to 300

Eleven people died of malnutrition in the Gaza Strip this Sunday, bringing the total number of deaths from this cause in the Palestinian territory to 300 since the Israeli offensive began in October 2023.

According to the daily report published this Monday by the Gazan Ministry of Health, which collects data from the previous day, 117 of the 300 deaths from starvation in Gaza are children.

Of those who died yesterday, two are babies: Haya, a six-month-old girl, and Habiba, a 22-day-old girl, confirmed to EFE Zaher al Waheidi, head of the count of the deceased in the ministry.

Six of the deceased were over 60 years old, and the rest were adults over 18 years old, the official added.

Most of those who have died from causes related to malnutrition and hunger in Gaza have lost their lives during the last two months, after an almost total blockade on the entry of food and medicine into the enclave by Israel, which controls all access.

In recent weeks, and after strong international pressure, Israel has somewhat expanded the entry of food into Gaza and has again allowed shipments of pallets with humanitarian aid from the air, although the amount of supplies entering is still not enough to meet the needs of the population, according to the UN.

More than 60,000 people have died in the Palestinian enclave since the beginning of the Israeli offensive in October 2023, in a situation denounced as genocide by countries such as South Africa before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), a qualification that has also been used by international and Israeli human rights organizations.
