Elías Piña, RD.- In an interdiction operation carried out in the Las Minas area, of the province of Elías Piña, soldiers of the Dominican Republic Army (ERD), attached to the Hondo Valle Detachment, seized a shipment of cigarettes introduced into the country illegally.
An ERD patrol seized the illicit merchandise that was being transported on a mule by an individual of presumed Haitian nationality, who, upon noticing the military presence, fled, leaving the cargo abandoned.You may be interested in: Over 91,000 contraband cigarettes seized in Mao
Upon being registered, it was determined that the cargo contained 76 packs of Capital brand cigarettes, with 200 units each, for a total of 15,200 cigarettes, and 34 packs of Jaisailmer brand, with 200 units each, for a total of 6,800 units. The merchandise was transferred to the corresponding military detachment, where it is under custody for the legal purposes required. The Dominican Republic Army reaffirms its commitment to continue developing operations against smuggling and other illicit activities in the border area, in support of the other institutions of the State.
