Trough causes early morning rains in several provinces of the country

Santo Domingo. – Meteorological analyst José Medina, from the Dominican Republic's Meteorology Institute (Indomet), reported that a trough continues to generate unstable conditions over a large part of the national territory, causing rain since the early hours of this Sunday.

The specialist explained that, although the phenomenon does not present great intensity, it is causing showers accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts, mainly in the provinces of the south coast such as La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, San Cristóbal and Gran Santo Domingo, where water accumulation and puddles have been reported in different urban areas.

For the afternoon hours, Indomet predicts that the rainfall will move inland, affecting locations in Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, La Vega, Santiago Rodríguez, Elías Piña and Dajabón, extending until the early hours of the night. In the early hours of Monday, showers and thunderstorms could repeat in sectors of the southern coast, including the capital again.

Despite the rains, the meteorologist warned that temperatures will remain hot, so he recommended drinking enough fluids, wearing light clothing, and avoiding direct exposure to the sun during the hours of greatest radiation.

Regarding maritime conditions, he indicated that the waves and winds remain normal throughout the coastal perimeter, allowing small and fragile vessels to carry out their activities, although with due caution.

"Despite the rainfall, we are still experiencing hot temperatures. The ideal thing to do is to take the necessary hydration and precaution measures on the coast," pointed out the meteorologist from Indomet.
