Santo Domingo.– Residents of the Gualey sector, in the National District, assured that crime in the area has decreased significantly in recent months, although they acknowledge that criminal acts have not completely disappeared and that insecurity is a reality present in all neighborhoods of the country. During a tour conducted by this media outlet, community members pointed out that greater tranquility is perceived in the streets, especially compared to previous years, attributing this improvement to a greater police presence and the joint action of community leaders. “It's not like before here. Before, you couldn't go out peacefully, but now there seems to be more calm. Of course there is crime, because that exists everywhere, but it has decreased quite a bit,” said Luis Silverio, a resident of the area for more than two decades. In the same vein, María Altagracia Minaya, a housewife from the sector, indicated that although sporadic robberies still occur, the situation is less tense.

"It cannot be said that we are free from crime, but you don't hear as many robberies as before. One can walk a little more confidently," he affirmed. Other neighbors highlighted that police operations have contributed to the reduction of criminal acts. "More patrols are seen and that deters criminals a lot. There will always be problems here, but now they feel less," commented Félix Villar, a merchant in the area. The community members called on the authorities to continue strengthening security in Gualey and other vulnerable sectors of the National District, while highlighting the importance of collaboration between neighbors, police, and local leaders to preserve peace and coexistence in the community.
