A comment from the president and CEO of InterEnergy Group, parent company of the Consorcio Energético Punta Cana–Macao (CEPM), Rolando González Bunster, within the framework of Fitur 2026, provoked a forceful response from the president of the Unified Council of Electricity Distribution Companies (CUED), Celso Marranzini.

Bunster stated that in a few months he could solve the main problems of electrical distribution in the country, applying the available technology, including the software developed by CEPM and indicating that he has offered to collaborate with other distributors and with the government on several occasions since 2016, but that his proposals have not received attention.

Marranzini responded to these statements as follows: "If the distributors charged the same rate as CEPM, we would do it just as quickly and of course with a rich area like the East Zone, without taking away from what it does."

This comment and response has highlighted the difference in the vision and management of energy between the State and the private sector.

"At CEPM, we have verified that a reliable, clean, and innovative energy model not only reduces emissions, but also boosts the destination's competitiveness, generates investor confidence, and transforms the visitor experience," said González Bunster, regarding the group's vision in relation to energy demand and trends for tourism.

In this 2026 edition of FITUR, the company shared the progress made and highlighted the strategic impact of its energy model on the development of Dominican tourism, consolidating itself as a key partner of the tourism and investment sector in the country.

The company highlighted the 100% completion of the first phase of its CEPM Zero project in 2025, with the incorporation of 270 MWp of photovoltaic solar energy, more than 160 MWh in energy storage systems (BESS), and the commissioning of the new 37.05 MW natural gas generation plant that provides flexible backup. This combination strengthens the resilience of the system, guarantees continuity of service in the face of peak demand or contingencies, and facilitates the safe integration of renewable energies.
