Women at the Wheel RD Foundation opens the School Road Safety Education Week

Santo Domingo. – The Mujeres al Volante RD Foundation opened the School Road Education Week, an initiative aimed at training in road education and safety for more than 500 young people, with the aim of promoting, from schools, colleges and high schools, an early and conscious training on respect for traffic rules and the preservation of life.

The activity arises in response to the alarming number of traffic accidents recorded in the Dominican Republic and the human losses they cause each year, directly impacting hundreds of Dominican families.

The president and founder of the entity, licensed María Díaz de Figueireo, ambassador of road education in the country, highlighted that this initiative seeks to fill a historical void in the national education system, where road education is not yet a structured part of the academic curriculum.

Díaz de Figueireo explained that the main objective of the program is to raise awareness from the classrooms and, at the same time, call on the authorities to ensure that the State and the different levels of government assume these types of initiatives as a permanent public policy, capable of effectively contributing to the reduction of deaths from traffic accidents in the country.

“We cannot continue to fill our streets with blood nor continue to bring pain and suffering to Dominican families due to the lack of real and effective road education. Prevention begins with training,” said Díaz.

Important figures from the municipal, transportation, and public health sectors attended the event, including the mayor of Santo Domingo Oeste, Francisco Peña; the president of the National Central of Unified Transporters (CNTU), William Pérez

Figuereo; representatives of the Ministry of Public Health in the transportation area, as well as representatives of the National Institute of Transit and Terrestrial Transportation (INTRANT) and the direction of the Educational Center and Art La Hora de Dios. The School Road Safety Week includes educational sessions, awareness talks, and training activities aimed at students, with the purpose of promoting a culture of responsibility, respect, and care for life on public roads.
