Meghan Markle and
Prince Harry are developing a new television project in collaboration with Netflix, according to
Deadline.
According to the media, the production will consist of a dramatic series centered on the world of polo and will be made under his company Archewell Productions. Likewise, the project, which does not yet have an official title, will be set in the equestrian town of Wellington, Florida, United States.
The plot will address the dynamics between two rival polo teams, as well as the relationships between the families that lead them. The narrative will focus on the conflicts and bonds that arise in this sporting environment.
The series will be produced in conjunction with the company Fake Empire, founded by
Josh Schwartz and
Stephanie Savage, who have participated in various television projects.
This new development is added to the list of content that the couple keeps in production under their agreement with the streaming platform.
The project is related to Prince Harry's previous interest in polo, a discipline he has practiced for several years, including participation in charity matches.
Furthermore, it is linked to Prince Harry's project,
POLO, a docuseries released in 2024 on the same platform, also set in Wellington and focused on this sport.
The collaboration between the couple and Netflix is part of a long-term production agreement that includes the development of film and television content.
Among the projects included in this agreement are adaptations of literary works such as
The Wedding Date, by
Jasmine Guillory, and
Meet Me at the Lake, written by
Carley Fortune, the latter with a director already assigned, according to reports.
The announcement of the new project occurs in a context in which versions about the relationship between the couple and the platform have circulated. Some reports pointed out possible tensions, which have been rejected by both Netflix representatives and spokespersons for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Among the background mentioned in these reports is the interview the couple gave in 2021 to
Oprah Winfrey, in the context of their decision to step down from their duties within the British royal family and move to California.
Reference has also been made to the 2023 publication of
Spare , a work in which Prince Harry addresses aspects of his personal life and his experience within the royal family.
In response to these versions, Netflix's content director,
Bela Bajaria, publicly pointed out that not all the information disseminated should be taken as true, and called for verification of the data before its dissemination.
The first project the Duke and Duchess of Sussex premiered with the platform was Harry & Meghan, a documentary series divided into six episodes that presents a journey through the couple's relationship, from its beginnings to their departure from institutional life in the United Kingdom.
On the other hand, it was recently reported about the end of the collaboration between Netflix and the lifestyle brand As Ever, driven by
Meghan Markle. According to spokespersons, the brand will continue its operations independently after its initial stage linked to the platform.
In that context, brand representatives noted that the project has experienced growth during its first year and is in a consolidation phase. They also indicated that the development of new initiatives is planned throughout the current year.
