Two dead and one seriously injured in motorcycle accident on Bayaguana–Copey highway

Bayaguana, Monte Plata. – Two young people lost their lives on Wednesday afternoon after a tragic accident occurred in the community of Cocinero, on the road that connects the municipality of Bayaguana with Copey. The deceased were identified as Jhon Javier Gutiérrez Mejía and Yeison de León Otañe, both residents of Bayaguana. According to preliminary information, the incident occurred when two motorcycles collided head-on, causing the immediate death of the young people. In the accident, a young woman traveling on one of the motorcycles was also seriously injured, who was assisted by a unit of the National Emergency System 9-1-1 and transferred to the Dr. Ángel Contreras Hospital, in Monte Plata, where she is receiving medical attention.

Members of the National Police, the Bayaguana Fire Department, and DIGESETT agents arrived at the scene, who are working on gathering information and controlling traffic. The victims' bodies remained at the scene, one on the pavement and the other in a ditch, awaiting the medical examiner for the corresponding removal. Authorities are investigating the circumstances in which this unfortunate event occurred.
