New York.- British singer Victoria Beckham spoke for the first time about the family controversy with her eldest son, Brooklyn, who publicly broke with her and her father, former soccer player David Beckham, last January.
"We love our children very much. We have always tried to be the best parents. We have been in the spotlight for over 30 years and the only thing we have always tried to do is protect our children and love them," said the businesswoman and designer in an interview with The Wall Street Journal published this Thursday.
Victoria Beckham, 51, also stated that negative press has not affected her work: "I think, ultimately, people buy my product because it's really good. I don't think they buy my eyeliner just because it's me."
Brooklyn publicly broke up with his parents in January, after accusing them of "a permanent lack of respect" towards his wife Nicola Peltz, and stated that he does not want to reconcile with his family.
In a statement on Instagram, he assured that David and Victoria Beckham have tried to "ruin" his relationship with his now wife and accused them of carrying out "relentless attacks against him" both privately and publicly.
In the publication, he detailed an incident that occurred in 2022 during his wedding due to the wedding dress designed by Victoria that was not ready at the last minute, which, according to him, was intended to make the wedding fail.
"I have been silent for years and I was determined to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team continue to go to the press and leave me no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about just some of the lies," he indicated.
Subsequently, she detailed how her mental health was affected by the relationship with her family, which also includes her siblings Romeo Beckham, 23; Cruz Beckham, 20, and Harper Beckham, 14.
"I grew up with overwhelming anxiety," she explained. "For the first time in my life, since I moved away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared. I wake up every morning grateful for the life I chose and I have found peace and relief."
