UNITED STATES. The New York Yankees relied on a solid pitching performance by Luis Gil and the offensive awakening of Giancarlo Stanton to defeat the Boston Red Sox 4-0 on Tuesday night at Fenway Park.

Stanton, who hadn't connected hits against left-handed pitchers so far this season, changed the story with a decisive performance. In the second inning, he punished a pitch from Connelly Early with a powerful home run that came off the bat at 111.5 miles per hour, and later added a two-run double that extended the New York lead. The designated hitter once again showed his comfort on the historic Boston stage, where he took advantage of the particular dimensions of the stadium to make a difference with his offensive power. From the mound, Gil once again looked dominant. The Dominican right-hander worked 6.1 scoreless innings, limiting the Red Sox to just two hits, with three walks and two strikeouts. Despite not having his best velocity, he knew how to control the game and keep the opposing offense at bay. The opener continued his dominance against Boston, a team against which he arrived with an effectiveness of 0.99 in five career starts. The Yankees secured the win with a two-run double by Randal Grichuk in the eighth inning, sealing a victory that reaffirms their good form at the start of this season. For their part, the Red Sox continue to show offensive difficulties, a constant that was once again evident in this game, in which they never managed to decipher the New York pitching.
