NEW YORK. – US President Donald Trump said he would not pay the high ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup, although he called the tournament a "incredible success" from a commercial point of view.

During a telephone interview granted to The New York Post newspaper, Trump reacted with surprise upon learning that tickets for the match between the United States and Paraguay, scheduled for June 12 in Los Angeles, exceed $1,000 in their initial price.

"I didn't know that figure. I'd like to be there, but I wouldn't pay for it either, if I'm honest with you," expressed the Republican leader.

Trump also expressed concern about his supporters' access to the event's matches, noting that he would like people from popular sectors to be able to attend the championship.

"If the people of Queens and Brooklyn and all the people who love Donald Trump can't go, I would be disappointed," commented the president, who indicated that he will study the issue.

Despite criticism over ticket costs, Trump praised FIFA for the sales volume achieved for the World Cup to be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

As he pointed out, around five million tickets have already been sold, which he considered a demonstration of the tournament's enormous impact and popularity.

High resale prices continue to generate controversy among fans and specialists, especially after reports indicating that some tickets for the final reach millions on secondary platforms.

FIFA, however, has defended the "dynamic market" system, a mechanism that allows prices to be adjusted according to the existing demand for each match.
