Santo Domingo. - The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) reported this Thursday that it surprised dozens of undocumented Haitians "partying happily" at a clandestine party in the El Bajo Mundo sector, located in the community of Sabaneta, in the municipality of Jarabacoa, La Vega.
The arrests occurred after intelligence work following alerts about the activity, the DGM said in a note.

DGM agents worked in coordination with members of the Army and National Police and as a result of the operation, 27 people were arrested, 23 men and 4 women, who did not carry documentation proving their legal stay in the country. The detainees were transferred to the National Police headquarters in the municipality of Jarabacoa for their screening and identification, and will subsequently be processed in accordance with the General Migration Law. The General Directorate of Migration reiterated its commitment to compliance with the law and the strengthening of immigration controls, in strict respect for human rights and in coordination with the State security agencies, the department pointed out.
