Authorities thwart shipment to Europe of nine hammocks impregnated with cocaine

Santo Domingo.- Authorities seized nine fabric hammocks, impregnated with cocaine, in inspection operations at the Las Américas International Airport (AILA-JFPG), in Santo Domingo, the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) reported this Monday, specifying that the destination of the drug was Spain and the Netherlands.

Through a statement, the DNCD explained that in a first intervention, anti-narcotics agents, supported by members of other security agencies, were verifying the shipments that were going to Madrid, Spain, when one of the canine units alerted of controlled substances inside a cardboard box.

By order of the prosecutor, the package was opened, revealing six hammocks inside, all soaked in a white powder presumed to be cocaine.

The box was sent by an individual with an alleged address on Mella highway, Santo Domingo Este municipality, and it would be received by a man who, according to the manifest, lives in Catalonia, Spain.

In a second operation, another box was located, with three fabric hammocks, which were sent by a woman residing in San Isidro, to a man with an address in Heiligeweg, Netherlands.

Security agencies do not rule out that the cases are related due to the similarity in the way of trying to take the substance out of the country.
