Santo Domingo.— During a tour conducted by the De Último Minuto team in different parts of Greater Santo Domingo, citizens shared their opinions on the possibility of a military intervention by the United States in Venezuela.
According to the testimonies collected, a group of those consulted stated that they supported the idea, considering that foreign military action could be "the only way" to restore peace and stability to Venezuelans. You may be interested in: http://Trump habló con Maduro por teléfono para acordar una reunión, según el New York Times
“If that means Venezuela is free, I agree, if Maduro wanted to, there would be no bloodshed, What's stopping him from surrendering or asking for asylum?”, stated Mrs. Johanny Mirabal.
Those who held this position stated that the prolonged crisis in Venezuela has reached levels that, in their opinion, justify an intervention to stop the violence and reactivate the institutions. However, other interviewees expressed a more cautious view. Although they do not rule out the entry of US forces, they insisted that such support should be given without imposing political control to facilitate a peaceful transition.“The citizens there are waiting for a freedom… it would be good if a foreign power takes control, not that they arrive and impose themselves, but that they remove the dictatorship and can hold elections”, added a young man who identified himself as Manuel.
It is recalled that the United States Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, recently visited the Dominican Republic, where he agreed with President Luis Abinader to allow US forces to use the San Isidro Air Base and Las Américas International Airport as logistical support points within regional operations against drug trafficking and to reinforce Caribbean security. During the meeting, both parties reaffirmed that the use of these facilities will be temporary and strictly limited to resupply, personnel transport, and technical tasks, without implying offensive deployments or interference in the country's sovereign decisions.
