Santo Domingo.- During renovation work carried out in front of the Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Carmen, in the heart of the Colonial Zone, human skeletal remains were found, which has generated surprise and expectation among residents and visitors to the area.
The discovery occurred while workers were excavating the ground to install a support structure for underground cables and the stormwater drainage system. Upon removing the soil at the intersection of Arzobispo Noel and Sánchez streets, several skeletons were uncovered.

Preliminarily, it is presumed that the remains could belong to settlers from the colonial era, combatants of the April Revolution of 1965, or even former patients of the Hospital Padre Billini, which adjoins the chapel of the temple. However, anthropological studies will be required to accurately determine the time period, origin, sex, and age of the individuals found.
The discovery has piqued the interest of dozens of curious people who pass through this historic area. The church, built in 1615 and expanded in 1729, is considered a jewel of the historical and religious heritage of the Dominican Republic.
