“That is private”: Abinader reserves reactions of his wife and daughters to Penal Code approval

Santo Domingo.– President Luis Abinader avoided revealing this Wednesday if his wife, First Lady Raquel Arbaje, and his daughters reproached him after the enactment of the new Penal Code, which only includes one of the three grounds for abortion.

"That's private," the president responded in a relaxed tone when questioned during the lunch of the Corripio Communications Group.

However, Abinader assured that, although there are differences of opinion within his family nucleus, everyone recognizes that the approval of the Penal Code represents a step forward for the country. "I am also the president of all Dominicans. We have disagreements with my daughters, their opinion is very strong. Obviously, they have their point of view, but that was the possible code and they recognize that there was progress", expressed the head of state. The new Penal Code, enacted last Sunday as Law No. 74-25, maintains the penalization of abortion with the exception of when the mother's life is in danger, excluding the other two grounds: rape/incest and malformations incompatible with life.
