Santiago.- Amidst the pain and outrage, the father of Ángela Geraldine Hernández, 32, demanded this Friday a thorough investigation and justice for the death of his daughter, who allegedly died while undergoing cosmetic surgery, liposuction type, at the Diosa de los Jardines health center in Santiago.
José Eduardo Hernández, the young woman's father, offered his statements while remaining outside the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) in Santiago, where his daughter's body was taken for the corresponding autopsy. The man stated that the family has received information which, in his opinion, should be investigated by the Public Ministry, including the version that his daughter had been taken to the José María Cabral y Báez regional university hospital in an emergency, allegedly with a bag of blood, after presenting complications during the procedure. "We have information that we are going to deliver to the Prosecutor's Office today for investigation. What we want is justice, because today it was my daughter, tomorrow it could be any other family's daughter," he expressed visibly affected. Hernández also denounced that, so far, the clinic where the procedure was performed has not contacted the family to offer explanations about what happened. "The clinic has not spoken to us. We are going to the Prosecutor's Office today so that this is investigated as it should be," he said.Angela Geraldine's father stated that he hopes the authorities will act firmly to prevent similar cases from continuing to occur, warning that, as he said, it would not be the first time that situations of this type have been recorded.
"I ask justice to be done in this case for my daughter, to prevent this from happening to another family in the future. There must be consequences for that," she demanded. You may be interested in: Woman dies during liposuction in a Santiago clinic linked to past controversies over cosmetic surgeries
She also revealed that at the time she tried to persuade her daughter not to undergo the cosmetic procedure, although she acknowledged that she made the decision of her own free will. "No parent wants to go through a process like this. I tried to stop her from doing it, but sometimes children do what they think is right," he lamented. The authorities are awaiting the results of the autopsy to be performed by Inacif, which will be crucial in establishing the exact causes of death and defining the next steps in the investigation. So far, neither the Diosa de los Jardines health center nor the health authorities have offered an official version of the case.
