Today Acroarte celebrates elections with a single slate headed by Marivell Contreras

Santo Domingo. – The Association of Art Journalists of the Dominican Republic (Acroarte) celebrates this Saturday, June 28, its national elections with a single slate, headed by the journalist and cultural manager Marivell Contreras, who would thus mark her return to the presidency of the guild more than a decade after having been the first woman to hold that position.

Contreras, recognized for her career as a narrator, poet, university educator, and journalist specializing in art and entertainment, aspires to preside over the institution for the period 2025-2027, a position she already held between 2007 and 2009.

The voting process began at 9:00 a.m. and is taking place simultaneously at Acroarte's headquarters, located on Elvira de Mendoza No. 152, Zona Universitaria, Distrito Nacional, as well as at the branches in Santiago (Ateneo Amantes de la Luz), New York (809 Bar & Grill, Dyckman St.) and Florida (Millennia Atlantic University, Doral). In Santo Domingo, voting will extend until 6:00 p.m., and until 5:00 p.m. at the international branches.

The current president of Acroarte, Wanda Sánchez, has been at the head of the guild for the last two years and was in charge of the production of the Premios Soberano 2024 and 2025. Under her management, these elections were called, which are taking place normally and in an environment of consensus.

The Electoral Commission reminded eligible members of their right and duty to vote, as a way of supporting institutionalism and continuing to strengthen the guild that brings together art and entertainment journalists in the country. With her return, Marivell Contreras reaffirms her commitment to the defense of chroniclers, transparency, the development of new institutional projects and the consolidation of the Soberano Awards as the main recognition of art and culture in the Dominican Republic.
