Washington.- The American president, Donald Trump, called separately this Monday to his counterparts from Russia and Ukraine, Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky, to try to find a solution to the conflict.
The White House limited itself to confirming that the conversation with the Russian leader was underway and did not offer details of the exchange with Zelensky, which according to CNN took place first.
Trump reported last Friday his intention to speak with both leaders and anticipated that they were going to address how to stop "the bloodbath" in Ukraine and trade matters. In that announcement, however, he pointed out that the dialogue was going to begin with Russia.
The Kremlin on Monday called the conversation with Trump "important" and said it would focus on the outcome of the recent direct negotiations between Russians and Ukrainians in Istanbul.

Ukrainian and Russian representatives met in Turkey last Friday, a meeting whose only tangible agreement was the exchange of a thousand prisoners of war by each side and the promise to exchange lists with conditions for a possible ceasefire.
