Authorities have warned that, once the phenomenon has passed, a dangerous layer of ice could form on roads, sidewalks, and other surfaces, posing a high risk to both pedestrians and drivers. The danger is greater in coastal areas such as Ocean View, in Norfolk, and Oceanfront, in Virginia Beach, where the threat of flooding increases due to strong waves. Likewise, interruptions in the electrical service are reported, with mild outages already recorded during the night in the city of Norfolk. Authorities keep weather alerts active and urge the population to stay informed and contact emergency services immediately in any risk situation. This weather event has also impacted other states, where entire communities have been covered in ice and snow. As a result of the bad weather, dozens of flights have been canceled at different airports in the region.
