London.- The Ferrari with which the former German driver Michael Schumacher won the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Monaco and was crowned world champion in 2001 was auctioned off this weekend for 15.9 million euros in the Principality, according to the British auction house RM Sotheby´s.
This F2001 made history this Saturday by being the first F1 car to be auctioned during the Monaco Grand Prix qualifying and set a record by becoming the most expensive F1 vehicle driven by the driver, after exceeding the 11.6 million that a bidder paid for the Ferrari F2003 in 2022.
Likewise, it became the fourth most expensive F1 car ever sold. The world record is held by the Mercedes W196 driven by Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss in the 1950s, which was auctioned off at the beginning of this 2025 for more than 45 million dollars.
Schumacher, 56, drove the F2001 in his last victory at the Monaco Grand Prix, which was subsequently followed by another at the Hungarian Grand Prix that secured his fourth F1 world title.

Dubbed by RM Sotheby's as 'The crown jewel' of the German ex-pilot, the F2001 was devised by the Scuderia's "superteam" formed by Jean Todt, Ross Brawn, Rory Byrne and Schumacher himself.
The motorist suffered a serious brain injury in December 2013 after a skiing accident and was in an induced coma until 2014, when he was moved to his home for private treatment and rehabilitation. He has not appeared in public since then.
