SANTO DOMINGO, RD.- The Basketball Association of the National District (Abadina) will inaugurate this Saturday its first tournament of the year when they launch the youth (U19), in the male and female categories, at the sports center of the Ensanche Luperón club.
The protocol ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, at 4:00 PM, at the aforementioned headquarters.
The contest, in which 28 men's and six women's clubs will compete, has a special dedication to the Minister of Youth of the Dominican Republic, Carlos José Valdez Matos.
Valdez Matos, who was appointed by President Luis Abinader through decree 390-24, is a civil engineer and politician who assumed the position in July 2024, with the focus of promoting inclusive policies, entrepreneurship, and the integral development of young people.
The details were given by Edwin Castillo (Tatico), president of Abadina, through a press release in which he highlights the dedication to the young minister Valdez Matos, who is an ally of sports in the Capital city and throughout the country, in favor of children and young people.
Castillo also highlighted the participation of those 28 youth clubs (U19) members of Abadina, in the men's division, and the six that will see action -a single group-, in the women's division.
The teams were divided into four groups, in A: Ensanche Luperón, Los Prados, Nuevo Horizontes, Orlando Martínez, Los Gladiadores, San Lázaro and Los Pioneros, and in B: Rafael Paulino, Mauricio Báez, Rosa Duarte, Honduras del Oeste, La Ciénaga, Bameso and Dosa.
In group C were placed Huellas del Siglo, Rafael Leónidas Solano, San Carlos, María Auxiliadora, Reales del Caliche, Manganagua and Rafael Barias, and in group D are Gregorio Luperón, Simón Bolívar, Jardines del Norte, Montaño, Rottweiler, El Millón and Naco.
The clubs that will see action in the women's category are Mauricio Báez, La Ciénega, San Carlos, Rafael Barias, San Lázaro, and Ensanche Luperón.
Castillo valued that the championship has the sponsorship of the company Seaboard “Clean Energy” and the endorsement of the Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal).
