De la Cruz and Celestino break records in Toros' victory

SANTIAGO. – Bryan De La Cruz and Gilberto Celestino wrote historical pages for the Toros del Este franchise, by leading the 6-3 victory over the Águilas Cibaeñas in the closing of the regular season, in a game held at the Cibao Stadium.

De La Cruz reached 40 RBIs in the 2025-26 season, setting a new franchise record for 50-game campaigns, surpassing Juan Melo's mark (39) in the 2001-02 season. In addition, he equaled the club's historical record for most RBIs in a season, set by George Bell (1983-84). With his performance, De La Cruz joined the exclusive group of players with 40 or more RBIs in tournaments of 50 games in the history of the LIDOM:
  • Víctor Díaz: 50 (2008-09)
  • Juan Francisco: 42 (2009-10)
  • Domingo Martínez: 40 (1994-95)
  • José Oliva: 40 (1997-98)
  • Bryan De La Cruz: 40 (2025-26)

Celestino breaks scoring record

Gilberto Celestino also left his mark by scoring his 37th run of the campaign, setting a new run record for native players of the Toros del Este, surpassing the previous record of Ronny Simón (36 in 2023-24). With this triumph, the Toros finished the regular season with a record of 27-22, closing with two consecutive victories and 49 games played, after the cancellation of the Monday 22nd game against the Águilas by joint decision of the league and both teams.

The victory went to reliever Ángel Felipe (1-0, 0.00), who pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. The save went to José Adames (1), while the loss fell on Osvaldo Bidó (0-1, 5.40), allowing three runs and six hits in three innings.

Upcoming commitments

The Toros del Este will begin the Round Robin this Saturday 27th, when they receive the Gigantes del Cibao at the Francisco A. Micheli Stadium, starting at 7:30 pm.
On Sunday 28th they will travel to Santo Domingo to face the Escogido, on Monday they will visit Santiago and on Tuesday 30th they will return to La Romana to face the Águilas before the New Year's break.
