Peralta, who was acquired by the New York Mets during the offseason, explained that he chose to stay at his new team's training camp with the aim of adapting to the environment, getting to know his teammates, and preparing in the best way for the upcoming season. The pitcher indicated that the decision was agreed upon with his family, acknowledging that he was aware of the country's expectations and the fans' desire to see him pitch with the national team.“It wasn't an easy decision, but I think it's best for me and my career,” said the right-hander during an interview in Port St. Lucie, home of the Mets' spring training.
Peralta, 29 years old, spent his entire career in the Major Leagues with the Milwaukee Brewers before arriving in New York. After next season, the right-hander will become a free agent, and his name has been linked to possible conversations for a contract extension. The pitcher is coming off the best campaign of his career, after recording a 17-6 record, with an ERA of 2.70 in 33 starts during the past season with Milwaukee, establishing himself as one of the most consistent arms in the league.“I know it will be difficult for everyone, including myself. It wasn't easy to make the decision,” added the native of the province Espaillat.
