Boston. The Detroit Tigers sealed their postseason berth this Saturday after defeating the Boston Red Sox 2-1 at Fenway Park, thanks to a timely two-run single by Jahmai Jones with two outs.

With the victory, the Tigers secured at least a Wild Card spot, guaranteeing their presence in the playoffs for a second consecutive season. However, the goal is not entirely fulfilled: the team is still fighting to conquer their first title of the American League Central Division since 2014.
Venezuelan Keider Montero opened the game and set the pace with 4.1 innings of work, in which he struck out seven rivals and had a spectacular catch by Puerto Rican Javier Báez to stop a threat in the second inning. The bullpen responded with solidity: Brant Hurter, Dominican Rafael Montero and Tyler Holton maintained the lead, before Will Vest closed successfully for his 23rd save of the campaign.
The triumph came at a key moment, after weeks of ups and downs in September. In addition, it allows Detroit to manage its rotation and reserve ace Tarik Skubal, current winner of the American League Cy Young, to open Game 1 of the Wild Card Series.
The Tigers, who led the first half of the season with the best MLB record, managed to overcome a complicated finish and arrive at the decisive phase with the confidence to put their setbacks behind them and start from scratch in October.
