Paris, June 2 (EFE).- A total of 79 people were arrested last night during the celebrations of Paris Saint Germain's Champions League title, announced this Monday the prefect of Police of Paris, Laurent Nuñez.

PSG celebrated the title with their fans yesterday at their stadium, the Parc des Princes, and, after the end of the celebration, groups of people blocked the Paris ring road, the Peripherique, for a few minutes.

Following the police intervention, other groups headed to the Champs-Élysées, where they threw pyrotechnic devices and attempted to attack businesses, as well as trying to create barricades with trash containers and fences, Nuñez explained in a statement to BFMTV.

The incidents were fewer than those of Saturday night to Sunday, following PSG's brilliant 5-0 victory over Inter, which generated two deaths, over 200 injuries, and 563 arrests (491 in Paris) throughout France, of which 307 remain in police custody.

"There is a problem with legislation, immediate sanctions are needed" to combat this type of activity, acknowledged Nuñez, who insisted that these are people who took to the streets with "malicious" intent and without any connection to football.

The Government had mobilized 5,400 police officers from various forces in Paris and its metropolitan area, despite which the police chief considered that "there was no security failure", although he acknowledged that he is not satisfied with the overall result.
