- 1558. The University of Santiago de la Paz is erected with a seat in the city of Santo Domingo, with a donation from Hernando Gorjón.
- 1859. The Spanish Minister of State, S. Calderón Collante, writes to his Dominican counterpart, Domingo D. Pichardo, to guarantee that the fears of the population of a Haitian invasion due to the appointment of General Pedro Santana to head the colony were unfounded.
- 1860. Representatives of the American firm Patterson and Murgiondo arrive on Alto Velo Island, with the purpose of acquiring the rights to export guano.
- 1864. After a brief stay in Curaçao, the patrician Juan Pablo Duarte leaves for the Turks Islands on the Dutch schooner Gold Munster, to arrive from there to Dominican territory held by the restorers.
- 1876. President Ignacio María González resigns from office, due to pressure from the national political leadership, which accuses him of engaging in acts of corruption.
- 1890. Frederick Douglas, in charge of Business for the United States, arrives in the country, being surprised by the advances that had been registered in the capital, with respect to his previous visit 19 years ago.
- 1924. A Dominican National Guard lieutenant shoots the head of the Northern Department of that institution, Major César Lora, when he is surprised with the victim's wife in the vicinity of the bridge over the Yaque River, in Santiago.
- 1930. A movement headed by lawyer Rafael Estrella Ureña and other politicians begins in Santiago, with the support of General Rafael Trujillo, aimed at the overthrow of President Horacio Vásquez.
- 1933. The body of lawyer Francisco J. Peynado, author of the American disoccupation plan, who died days before in France, is buried in the chapel of Los Inmortales, in the Cathedral of Santo Domingo.
- 1944. The Perla Antillana Racecourse is inaugurated in commemoration of the centenary of Independence. Work carried out by engineers Alfredo González, Bienvenido Martínez Brea, José A. Caro and Guillermo González by order of the tyrant Rafael Trujillo Molina, with a budget of RD$5.0 million.
- 1963. The Dominican Revolutionary Vanguard Party, (VRD), chaired by Horacio Julio Ornes, decides not to participate in the government of Professor Juan Bosch.
- 1993. The Central Electoral Board annuls the registration for the new electoral registry issued in favor of President Joaquín Balaguer, because the president violated article 7 of the Electoral Law, by delegating his registration to presidential aide Aníbal Páez.
- 2006. The La Isabela International Airport is inaugurated, to replace the terminal that operated in the capital sector of Herrera, whose first flight that landed was from a plane owned by the Caribair company, from Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
- 2020. Hundreds of protesters participated in a protest in "defense of the Constitution" convened by 14 opposition parties, one week after the suspension of the municipal elections.
- 2021. Although late, the first large batch of vaccines against Covid-10 arrives in the country from China, with 768,000 units of the Sinovac serum, acquired by the Dominican Government to be applied within the National Vaccination Plan
- -After the Public Ministry raided the headquarters of the organization, the president of the Chamber of Accounts, Hugo Álvarez, affirms that the accusations made against the members of the organization must be proven and so far no indications of them have been presented.

- 451. The Battle of the Catalaunian Fields begins, in which the troops commanded by Attila were defeated by the Spanish, with around 162,000 men dying.
- 1535. The discovery of the Galapagos Islands by Bishop Tomás de Berlanga is one of the ephemerides of February 23.
- 1796. Napoleon is appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Army of Italy.
- 1904. Japan and Korea sign a treaty of alliance by which Korea becomes a protectorate of the Japanese empire.
- 1936. The police chief, Colonel Francis Riggs, is assassinated in San Juan, Puerto Rico, an action attributed to the young nationalists Hiram Rosado and Elías Beauchamp, who were arrested and shot.
- 1970. Guyana ends its association with Great Britain.
- 1977. After being accused of receiving money from the CIA, Venezuelan President Carlos Andrés Pérez withdraws his ambassador in Washington, receiving the corresponding apologies from his American counterpart James Carter the next day.
- 1981. In Spain, King Juan Castos I intervened to thwart a coup d'état led by Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Tejero Molina.
- 1990. The Armed Forces take power in Thailand, arrest Prime Minister Chatichai Choonhaven, suspend the Constitution and control the country with martial law.
- 1994. The countries of the OAS sign the Cartagena de Indias declaration, in which they urge to educate the peoples for democracy.
- 2002. The Colombian political leaders Clara Rojas and Consuelo González are kidnapped by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
- 2010. The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) was created in Quintana Roo, Mexico, during the summit of the Rio Group, during the Plenary Session of the Community of the Summit of Unity of Latin America and the Caribbean.
- 2013. The Colombian president, Juan Manuel Santos, threatens to abandon the dialogue with the FARC if the process does not advance, while pointing out that there will be no truce as requested by the guerrillas.
- 2015. The former president of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, the first to be democratically elected in the country, is summoned by the court under anti-terrorism laws, to be tried for arresting a judge during his three and a half year term.
- 2019. Humanitarian aid shipments for Venezuela, managed by opposition leader Juan Guaidó, are withdrawn in the face of the ironclad blockade imposed by the military, amid disturbances that leave at least two dead and dozens injured on the Venezuelan borders with Colombia and Brazil.
- 2021. In Ecuador, several simultaneous riots in different prisons in the country cause at least 62 deaths, in incidents recorded in the provinces of Guayas, Cotopaxi and Azuay.
