EDANCO will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a special edition

Santo Domingo.- The Contemporary Dance Encounter Foundation announced that the celebration of the twentieth edition of the International Contemporary Dance Festival (EDANCO 2025) will take place from Friday, September 19 to Sunday, October 5, at the Palacio de Bellas Artes and in various alternative spaces in Santo Domingo.

Patricia Ortega, general artistic director of EDANCO stated that “this important cultural event, considered one of the most relevant contemporary dance festivals in the region, will celebrate two decades of uninterrupted trajectory promoting art, dance and culture in the Dominican Republic”. He announced that this edition will feature the participation of international companies from Europe, South America, Central America, Asia and the Caribbean, who will join this artistic platform that will bring together the best of global contemporary dance in the celebration of 20 years of uninterrupted work in favor of dance and culture in our country.

Ortega indicated that, in addition to the stage performances, the festival will offer an interesting program of complementary activities, which will include workshops, conferences, talks, photographic exhibitions, and video dance screenings.

“Estas iniciativas tienen como objetivo fortalecer el vínculo entre el público y la danza, beneficiando especialmente a los colectivos artísticos y a las comunidades locales”.

Edmundo Poy, president of the EDANCO Foundation, highlighted that, since its creation in 2005, this festival has established itself as a key meeting point for prominent national and international dancers, teachers, and choreographers, becoming a driving force for the development of contemporary dance in the country. "We are proud to be a benchmark in the Dominican cultural and artistic sector, attracting thousands of people interested in enjoying dance as a cultural expression. This festival has also had a significant impact on the development of contemporary dance and other styles, as well as on cultural tourism, positioning the Dominican Republic as a first-class cultural destination," Poy expressed. He also said that thanks to this platform, artists from all over the world have found a space to showcase their talent, which has helped to project the country onto the international artistic scene. "Therefore, we are pleased to express that EDANCO 2025 will be a historic edition, marked by the celebration of 20 years of legacy, cultural exchange, and artistic excellence."
