Santo Domingo. — The mayor of Santo Domingo East, Dío Astacio, led this Saturday the first major graduation of 1,560 boys and girls who completed the initial level of English of the Effort, Orientation and Support Program (PROA).
During his speech, Mayor Astacio stated that PROA is a fulfilled promise of his administration, by offering real opportunities for learning and development to the children of the municipality. He highlighted that, in addition to English, the program includes music, sports, culture, and values education, allowing children and adolescents to strengthen their talents and receive comprehensive support.
"Today we are not only celebrating the culmination of an English level; we are celebrating the beginning of a different future for 1,560 boys and girls. Education is a treasure that no one can take away from them. Each new word, each effort, and each class is a key that will open doors for them for life," Astacio affirmed.
The mayor highlighted that these achievements are evidence that the municipality is moving towards a more humane, inclusive vision based on real opportunities for all.
Likewise, he recognized the parents for their support and the program's technical team, headed by its coordinator Elvin Brito, who have worked on the expansion and strengthening of PROA.
The graduates correspond to different sectors of the municipality where the PROA program is taught, located in Hainamosa, Invivienda, Villa Liberación, Ciudad Juan Bosch, El Duarte, Hamarap, Parada de la Cultura, Brisas del Edén, Brisa del Este, as well as in Nuevo Amanecer, La Ureña, San Bartolo sector and Los Frailes
The mayor highlighted that this first graduation demonstrates that Santo Domingo Este grows when its children grow, and that the municipality is today a fertile ground where values, discipline, education and hope are sown.
"These children have already shown that they can move forward and that they can dream big. One day they will look back and know that PROA was the starting point of a life full of opportunities," he expressed.
The mayor reported that he will maintain his commitment to continue expanding the program, incorporating new levels of English and more training disciplines, so that thousands of children and adolescents continue to have access to free and quality education.
