Abinader's speech before the UN starts late and did not mention Rare Earths as he had anticipated

New York. - Despite the fact that the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader Corona, was scheduled to speak before the General Assembly of the United Nations at 2:50 pm, it was not until after 3 pm that his speech began. In that sense, the Dominican president would have anticipated that in his speech he was going to prioritize the exploitation of Rare Earths and yet he did not touch on the subject. During his intervention, the president supported the resolution by Canada and the United States to finance a new mission to Haiti that has the support of a UN office.

President Luis Abinader Says It's Time for a Woman to Take Over as UN Secretary

During his speech to the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), Dominican President Luis Abinader stated that it is time for a woman to assume the secretaryship of the Organization. "In the coming months, the Secretary General of the Organization must be chosen, and it corresponds to Latin America. I am convinced that a woman should hold the position of Secretary General," the president stated before the 193 countries that make up the UN. He highlighted that the United Nations must be transformed and give more openness to dialogue. He also said that the Dominican Republic reaffirms its faith in the UN in its principles and values, adhering to the motto "better together for peace and human rights".

He said that as a member of the UN, he wants a fairer order where the development of one does not mean the misfortune of another. He pointed out that more spaces should be enabled to talk about global problems, climate change, tariffs, sargassum, among other challenges.
