The veteran Dominican center Al Horford, 40 years old, continues to evaluate his future in the NBA and, according to recent reports, the option of signing with the Golden State Warriors seems to have cooled down.
Although Horford, a free agent after his time with the Boston Celtics, was expected to sign with the Warriors last week, the player from Puerto Plata has not yet made a final decision, and retirement would also be on the table.

According to ESPN journalist Marc Spears, there are at least four teams interested in signing the Dominican player, including the Lakers, the Bucks, the Hawks, and still the Warriors themselves, although the distance from his family would be a key factor to consider. Currently, Horford resides between Atlanta and Boston in the offseason and is expecting his sixth child, which would directly influence his decision. A CBS Sports report suggests that Horford is taking time to reflect, and that even his 10-year-old son, Ian —a basketball fan—, could be an influence for the player to continue playing. During the 2024-2025 season, Horford averaged 9 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in more than 60 games with the Celtics, being a solid piece with extensive postseason experience. Teams like the Milwaukee Bucks, who have made significant moves this summer, and the Atlanta Hawks, who are looking to return to the fight with new additions, are also listed as strong contenders to acquire the veteran. Horford debuted in the NBA in 2007 with the Hawks, the team he played for during his first nine seasons, which makes his possible return to Atlanta even more attractive, due to family proximity and legacy. For the moment, the five-time All-Star's destination remains unknown, and everything indicates that the Dominican will make a decision on his own terms and time.
