The Armed Forces Day is commemorated in the Dominican Republic every February 25, a date that coincides with the birth of Matías Ramón Mella, one of the Founding Fathers.
This celebration honors the work of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, institutions responsible for the defense of the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and constitutional order of the country. The choice of the date highlights the historical link between the independence feat of 1844 and the permanent commitment of the Armed Forces to the protection of the nation.
In this day, official acts are carried out, headed by the President of the Republic in his capacity as the supreme authority of the Armed Forces, as well as military ceremonies, promotions, recognitions, and floral offerings in honor of national heroes.
In addition to their role in national defense, the Dominican Armed Forces play key roles in supporting citizen security, risk and disaster management, environmental protection, and humanitarian assistance.
