The Director General of Operations of the Presidency, Aníbal Díaz Belliard, personally supervised the start of the demolition work on the bridge located over the Camú River, an infrastructure that was severely affected after the recent rise of the tributary on the Tourist Highway of this province.
During the supervision day, the official highlighted that the intervention is part of the immediate response instructed by the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, to restore road connectivity and guarantee the safety of citizens who use this important communication route to tourist areas and rural communities.
The bridge collapsed as a result of the heavy rains that caused the river's flow to increase, a situation that forced the authorities to close traffic in the area to prevent accidents and safeguard human lives. The demolition will allow for a new structure with higher standards of resistance and safety.
The work is being carried out by Constructora Estrella, the company responsible for building the new 135-meter bridge, whose construction seeks to restore normal traffic on the Tourist Highway and strengthen the road infrastructure of the province of Puerto Plata. The authorities reiterated their commitment to expedite the work for the benefit of residents, transporters, and visitors to the area.
