Horses reported running out of control in Bayaguana

Monte Plata.- Residents of the municipality of Bayaguana denounced the constant presence of horses wandering without any kind of control in the middle of the urban area, a situation that, they claim, has been going on for years without the authorities of the municipal council intervening to correct it. According to the complaint, these animals roam freely on public roads, posing a serious danger to both pedestrians and vehicle drivers, which has even led to traffic accidents. Fátima Mercedes, who made the statement public, called on owners and horse riders to take greater responsibility, urging them to put reflective vests on the animals at night, as they circulate without any visibility, increasing the risk of fatal incidents. The community members also questioned the lack of action by the mayor of Bayaguana, Frangel García, who, they say, has not arranged for the capture of stray animals. They claim that the municipal administration is going through an institutional crisis, reflected in the fact that, at the end of this year, the budget of the city council has not yet been approved, still operating with the one corresponding to the year 2024, a situation that has been denounced by several councilors.

The problem is not limited to Bayaguana. In Sabana Grande de Boyá, residents also expressed their dissatisfaction, claiming that during the early hours of the morning groups of people on horseback hold races and cause disturbances, generating unrest and disturbing the rest of the families. Also, community members requested the intervention of Animal Protection authorities to ensure the care and well-being of the horses. Unofficially, they reported that some riders allegedly ride while intoxicated and, in certain cases, carrying firearms or bladed weapons, which further aggravates the situation. Faced with this situation, residents urged municipal and police authorities, as well as relevant organizations, to take urgent measures in order to preserve citizen security, public order, and the protection of animals in the affected communities of Monte Plata province.
