Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani warned this Tuesday the Global Sumud Flotilla, the ships of activists trying to bring aid to Gaza, that "Israel will not allow the naval blockade to be violated" and that the Italian Navy frigate accompanying them to provide assistance will not leave international waters.
"I hope common sense prevails. I asked the Israeli Foreign Minister not to resort to violence. He replied that there will be no violence. It is evident that Israel will not allow the naval blockade to be violated. We have advised the Flotilla not to try to break the blockade. We do not know what might happen, but our Navy will not accompany the Flotilla in breaking the blockade, as there is no risk of shooting," he explained in statements to the channel 'La 7'.
The spokesperson for the Italian delegation of the Global Sumud Flotilla, Maria Elena Delia, told the media that they are about 250 miles from leaving international waters, about 48 hours of navigation, and that she anticipates that "when approaching 12 nautical miles from the coast of Gaza there will be mass arrests by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF)."
"We will not stop because we believe that blocking us in international waters is an illegal act. But if the Israeli Navy, or any other military vessel, orders us to stop, we will be forced to stop to avoid endangering our safety and that of our crews," said Democratic Party (PD) deputy Arturo Scotto in a video on social media, who is traveling on a vessel with fellow party deputy Annalisa Corrado.

On the other hand, the country's largest union, CGIL, announced that it will call a strike in all sectors "in case of attacks, blockades or confiscations of the ships and supplies of the Global Sumud Flotilla"; and the same was announced by the USB union, which on September 22nd blocked the country with dozens of demonstrations and a 24-hour strike to protest the situation in Gaza.
