Santo Domingo. – The outstanding actor and theater director Johnnie Mercedes expressed his enthusiasm for being part of the International Festival of Performing Arts (FESTAE 2026), highlighting the importance of this initiative for the cultural development of the country.
Mercedes defined the event as a high-level proposal that brings together the best of national and international talent.The artist also took the opportunity to acknowledge the institutional support that has made the festival possible. As part of the programming, Mercedes will be on stage with the play "Yago, I am not who I am", a free version of Othello, by William Shakespeare, presented by the National Theater Company. The participation of this piece is part of the celebration of the 80 years of experience of the institution, considered one of the most important in the country and the region."I want to congratulate and thank Banco Popular, the French Embassy, and the Mayor's Office of the National District for supporting and creating this beautiful festival," he expressed.
The FESTAE 2026 will take place from May 15 to 19 in Santo Domingo, with a program that integrates theater, music, and dance, consolidating itself as a new platform for cultural exchange in the Caribbean."We are celebrating 80 years of the National Theater Company, of which I have been a part for 26 years," he highlighted.
