The Minister of Labor, Eddy Olivares Ortega, said that the Labor Code will be approved and then the Social Security reform in the Dominican Republic, within the framework of the XVIII Ibero-American Congress of Social Security (OISS), held in Asunción, Paraguay.
Olivares Ortega explained that in the current legislature the reform of the Labor Code will be approved, a fundamental step to adapt labor relations to the challenges of the 21st century. A long-awaited and necessary national aspiration to strengthen the protection of workers, guarantee the sustainability of the system and raise the quality of services received by citizens.
"The President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, will promote, within the tripartite framework and with the broadest social consensus, a social security reform that is fair and reliable for all, especially for workers," stated the Minister of Labor.
In the event, the Ministry of Labor of the Dominican Republic received recognition for its performance at the head of the Ibero-American Social Security Organization (OISS) during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The distinction was received by the Minister of Labor, Eddy Olivares Ortega, who highlighted that, in a period marked by unprecedented challenges and opportunities for social innovation, having represented the Dominican Republic has been an experience that permanently honors the country.
The official valued that, in its seventy years of existence, the OISS has been a technical guide, a bridge for dialogue, and a driving force for reforms that have elevated the social protection of millions of people.
"The IOSS has known how to evolve, adapt and anticipate changes, always faithful to the mission of contributing to more inclusive, sustainable and supportive social security systems," he affirmed.
The minister also highlighted that this congress, dedicated to the future prospects of social security, confirms that Latin America is looking ahead. He explained that the challenges of demographic aging, the transformations of the labor market, digitalization, and protection against new emerging risks require thinking boldly, planning rigorously, and acting responsibly.
Finally, Olivares pointed out that the recognition received does not only constitute a personal or institutional honor, but also a reminder of the commitment made to Latin America and the responsibility to continue working, from each country and each space for dialogue, for more just, efficient and humane social security systems.
From its mud, Gina Magnolia Riaño Barón, Secretary General of the OISS, thanked Minister Olivares for the support and collaboration provided to the entity, especially during the approval of the Ibero-American Charter, a historic document that invited countries to renew their social pact and place social protection at the center of their public policies, as an axis of development and social cohesion.
