Santo Domingo. – This Monday, the judge of the First Court of Instruction of the National District, Raymundo Mejía, will begin the preliminary hearing against the brothers Antonio and Maribel Espaillat, owners of the Jet Set Club nightclub, for the collapse of the establishment's roof that occurred on April 8, a tragedy that left a balance of 236 people dead and dozens injured.
The Public Ministry charges the accused with involuntary manslaughter, as well as involuntary blows and injuries, to the detriment of the victims of the collapse, one of the most regrettable events recorded in the country in recent years.
This Sunday marks nine months and three days since the event, which caused a deep shock in Dominican society. Among the fatalities was the renowned merengue singer Rubby Pérez, whose loss caused a great impact on the national artistic and cultural sphere.
