Santo Domingo.- The President Luis Abinader apologized this Saturday to the citizenry for the inconveniences caused by the series of blackouts recorded in recent days.
The president pointed out that a combination of failures occurred just as the electrical demand reached a historic record of 4,000 megawatts, which caused a deficit of 15% and affected the service.
In that sense, he said that the national electricity system will recover 360 megawatts of energy starting this Sunday, which will allow to reduce the blackouts recorded in recent days."We know what it means to be without electricity in the middle of these high temperatures and we understand the discomfort of the population. We apologize," he expressed.

He assured that technicians are working 24/7 to restore stability to the supply affected by the shutdown of several plants, including unit 2 of Punta Catalina, which took about 600 megawatts out of the system.The president recalled that the Government had already designed an expansion plan to strengthen the energy matrix, which includes the incorporation of 612 megawatts in the next six months, another 700 megawatts in 2027 and about 800 additional megawatts between the end of 2027 and the beginning of 2028. With these measures, he said, the Dominican Republic will have a 15% margin of electrical demand by the end of 2027."We are looking for the quickest possible solution, because we understand people's anguish," he affirmed.
These statements were issued by the president during his visit to Punta Catalina, where he reiterated the government's commitment to guarantee a more reliable electricity service for the population.
