CINCINNATI — On a historic night for baseball in Cincinnati, where four Most Valuable Players coincided in the Yankees' lineup, it was the young Dominican Elly De La Cruz who stole the show.

De La Cruz led the Reds to a 6-1 victory over New York with a stellar performance that included three hits and three RBIs. His display of speed, power, and electrifying energy was so impactful that even the star Aaron Judge couldn't help but surrender to his talent.

"He can do it all," Judge affirmed. "He can hit, pitch, has impressive speed, has power — we saw it all in this game. It's simply electric."

The game began with a solo home run by Judge, but it would be the only damage allowed by Cincinnati's starting pitcher, Nick Lodolo, who worked 4.1 innings with six strikeouts and no walks. Elly started the comeback in the fourth inning with a run-scoring triple that tied the game, followed by a run scored after a sacrifice fly. In the fifth inning, she hit a single with the bases loaded, and later, in the eighth, she crowned her night with her 18th home run of the season.

"I love it when I get dirty. That means I did something good," commented De La Cruz, alluding to a recent anecdote in which he vomited on the field after extreme exertion. "I need to take care of myself. I drank a lot of water and that's what happened."

With just 23 years old, Elly exhibits an offensive line of .333/.416/.747 in his last 27 games, with 10 home runs and 29 runs scored. His slugging percentage of .747 since May 24th is the second best in Major League Baseball.

“He’s one of the most talented in all of baseball,” said teammate Gavin Lux. “He’s not below anyone anymore. Pitchers don’t want to face him.”

With this victory, the Reds (41-38) continue their good run, having won 11 of their last 16 games against high-caliber rivals, including these Yankees (45-33).
