In their opinion, the high cost of living has become one of the main factors of social unrest in the country.
Santo Domingo.– The president of the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) party, Leonel Fernández, stated that the government of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) has been a failure in the most essential aspects of the population's life, denouncing the rising cost of food, the collapse of the health system, and the deficient supervision of public works. Fernández maintained that guaranteeing food is a basic obligation of any State, but warned that Dominican families are currently facing a critical situation. He pointed out that everyday consumer products such as plantains, eggs and oil are constantly increasing, while wages remain stagnant. The political leader explained that this increase has significantly reduced the purchasing power of households, pushing thousands of families into a situation of economic uncertainty. Regarding the health system, Fernández described what happened with the National Health Insurance (Senasa) as a "catastrophe," stating that the institution has been weakened to favor particular interests. He denounced that this situation is unprecedented and has directly affected the most vulnerable sectors of the population, limiting timely access to medical services and medications."In the five years of the PRM government, the family basket has increased by 14 thousand pesos. Today it costs RD$14 thousand more than in the year 2020," he emphasized.

He also drew attention to the insecurity in public constructions, especially in hospitals. He cited the collapse of ceilings in health centers under construction or renovation, including a hospital in Azua and other recent cases, which, he said, demonstrates a serious lack of supervision and quality control in the works executed by the State. Fernández stated that the combination of expensive food, precariousness in health services, and poorly constructed works has generated deep citizen discontent."This government is a disaster, a catastrophe. There is growing popular anger, and what people want is for a new, responsible government to arrive, linked to the people, with vision and with the proven capacity to produce real transformations for the benefit of the majority," he expressed.
