The SIP will organize General Assembly in DR

Miami.- The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) will organize its 81st General Assembly in the Dominican Republic from October 16 to 19 of this year, a meeting that will pay special attention to the situation of press freedom in America, and will have a look at artificial intelligence. The meeting, which will take place in Punta Cana, will include conferences by journalists such as the Venezuelan Boris Muñoz, from The New York Times; Jon Lee Anderson, from The New Yorker; or the Nicaraguan exiled in Costa Rica Carlos Fernando Chamorro, the SIP reported this Friday in a statement.

In addition, panels and presentations will be developed focusing on "freedom of the press and democracy, sustainability and business models, digital transformation, innovation, or artificial intelligence applied to journalism". During the meeting, the country reports on the state of press freedom will also be presented, and the SIP 2025 Journalism Excellence Awards will be presented. The SIP is a non-profit entity dedicated to the defense and promotion of freedom of the press and expression.
