Lakers, without Dončić nor Reaves, seek to resist against Rockets with LeBron in command

Los Angeles. – The Los Angeles Lakers face a major challenge this Saturday at the start of the NBA playoffs, forced to reinvent themselves in the face of the sensitive absences of Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves, two of their main offensive figures.

The Los Angeles team, which will face the Houston Rockets at the Crypto.com Arena, will largely depend on the leadership of veteran LeBron James, who at 41 years old once again shoulders the responsibility of keeping title aspirations alive.

The Lakers reach the postseason after securing the fourth seed in the West, boosted by a strong regular season finish. However, the landscape changed drastically with the injury of Dončić, the league's leading scorer with averages of 33.5 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.7 rebounds, who has been out since the beginning of April. Adding to his absence is Reaves, affected by an oblique strain that will keep him off the courts for several weeks.

In an effort to speed up his recovery, Dončić recently traveled to Madrid to undergo specialized treatment, although the team's plan is to get through the first round with the hope of having him in later stages.

In this scenario, James stands as the absolute core of the team. If he sees action, the four-time NBA champion will reach his 19th playoff appearance, equaling a historic record shared by figures like Karl Malone and John Stockton. His experience and competitive ability will be key for a squad that will also need contributions from players like Rui Hachimura and Luke Kennard.

For their part, the Rockets arrive as the fifth-ranked team, led by Kevin Durant, and start as favorites in the series due to the absences of the Los Angeles team, despite the fact that the Lakers dominated the direct confrontations in the regular season.

The first duel will set the tone for a series in which Los Angeles is obliged to be strong at home if they want to keep their aspirations of advancing in the postseason alive.
