The young pitcher retired the first 11 batters he faced and maintained control of the game for just over six innings, in which he allowed only three hits and one unearned run, in addition to giving two walks and prescribing six strikeouts. The only moment of pressure came in the fourth inning, when Vinnie Pasquantino connected for the first hit of the game for Kansas City. Subsequently, in the fifth episode, the visitors manufactured their only run after a combination of a walk to Maikel García, a deep hit by Bobby Witt Jr. that ended in a defensive error and a run-scoring groundout by Pasquantino. Schlittler returned to the mound in the seventh inning, but after allowing a walk and a single, he left the game with runners on base. Reliever Brent Headrick took over to extinguish the threat by retiring the next three batters. The Yankees' starting pitcher was cheered after completing his work of 93 pitches, 63 of them in the strike zone, in what represents his strongest outing of the season. The offensive support came early thanks to a two-run homer by Ben Rice, enough to lead New York to victory. The performance marks a rebound for Schlittler, who in his two previous starts had allowed six runs in 10 innings, after starting the season with an impeccable streak without allowing runs. With this result, the Yankees continue to consolidate their rotation, while their young starter demonstrates that he has the tools to be a key piece during the season.
