With an investment of over RD$260 million, Abinader inaugurates several tourist works and development projects in Puerto Plata

Puerto Plata.- With an investment exceeding RD$262 million in three new tourist projects and more than RD$1,400 million allocated to the sector in this province, President Luis Abinader led an extensive work day in Puerto Plata this Sunday. The Head of State, during his visit, supervised the solid waste plant, met with young people, and launched initiatives such as the degree program and the working meeting on the Punta Bergatín project. In the act, the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, informed that the Government's investment is around RD$1,400 million in the tourism sector of the province and highlighted the importance of these works and their impact on the development of the "Bride of the Atlantic", which continues to gain new and strong momentum, generating more and more jobs.

"These works are of transcendental importance for tourism in Puerto Plata, as we are talking about access to one of the most visited beaches in Maimón, the reconstruction of sidewalks and curbs in the Historic Center and the longed-for building that will house tourism journalists and the Puerto Plata Tourism Museum", said Minister Collado.

The reconstruction of the access road to Teco beach, in the municipal district of Maimón, had an investment of RD$146,229,874 and will have a social and tourist impact in the area. The intervened area covers a length of 3.6 kilometers and a road width of 8.00 meters. It includes the construction of two kilometers of longitudinal gutters, the reconstruction of existing culverts, cleaning and encasement of streams, as well as horizontal and vertical signage.

Puerto Plata Landfill

Subsequently, President Luis Abinader made a supervisory visit to the construction work of the solid waste processing and valorization plant in the municipality of San Felipe, where the Administrative Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, highlighted that with the implementation of the new model of final disposal of solid waste, one of the most critical and shameful problems that for years affected the province and its tourism potential will be put to an end. The official explained that, thanks to the new legal instruments in environmental matters that the Dominican Republic has, it has been possible to implement a modern system that will mark a before and after in waste management. On his side, Alfredo Acebal, manager of the Jaime Manuel Campos Power Recycling project, highlighted the construction of a modern sanitary landfill and a valorization plant with the capacity to handle around 1,500 tons of solid waste daily. He pointed out that the project will generate between 1,000 and 1,500 jobs, both direct and indirect, mostly for residents of the area. Meeting with 350 young students During his visit to the province, President Luis Abinader held a conversation with 350 young students from public high schools, private schools, and the English Immersion program at the National Institute for Technical and Vocational Training (INFOTEP). During the meeting, the students had the opportunity to express their concerns, aspirations, and proposals for the future of the country, which were listened to attentively by President Abinader, who shared his vision on the fundamental role that youth plays in the development and growth of the nation. The president highlighted that his administration has prioritized job creation and the improvement of Dominicans' income, achieving a 46% increase in real terms in the salaries of the private sector. He also pointed out that the Government is actively working on the modernization of public services and stressed that the greatest expansion of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) has occurred during his administration.

Likewise, Abinader explained that firm steps are being taken towards the incorporation of Artificial Intelligence in the education system, with a view to better preparing young people for the challenges of the future. He also announced that a commission on the Quality of Education will be formed next week, aimed at reinforcing the teaching of English and technologies, while expressing his interest in each city in the country having a polytechnic to expand opportunities for technical and professional training.
