They seize 14 pounds of marijuana at the Las Américas International Airport

Santo Domingo.- Authorities seized 14 pounds of marijuana that arrived at the Las Américas International Airport (AILA) from the United States, reported this Wednesday the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD).

A statement from the anti-drug agency explained that the units were carrying out verification operations in one of the terminal's warehouses, when at that moment a canine unit alerted to controlled substances inside two cardboard boxes, which arrived from the United States.

Following the established protocol and under the instructions of the prosecutor, the boxes were opened, finding in each one, five packages, for a total of 10, all wrapped in green plastic bags and weighing approximately 14 pounds. The vegetable bales were found inside the boxes in clothing and wrapped in green covers, which were sent by a woman with a supposed address on 6C Street, Manhattan, New York and would be received by an individual, who according to the manifest resides in the Villa III Residential, in Santo Domingo. The Public Ministry and the DNCD "investigate the frustrated shipment of the substance, while they continue to redouble joint efforts to neutralize the drug trafficking networks that try to use airports and ports to traffic narcotic substances through different modalities", the statement concluded.
