Colombian government decrees a day of mourning in memory of Miguel Uribe Turbay

Bogotá.- The Colombian government decreed this Monday a day of mourning and raised the flag at half-mast at the Casa de Nariño, headquarters of the Executive, in memory of Senator and presidential pre-candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay, who died this morning, 64 days after being seriously injured in an attack. The decree, signed by the Minister of the Interior, Armando Benedetti, indicates that Uribe Turbay, an opponent of President Gustavo Petro's government, had a long political career as a councilman of Bogotá, Secretary of Government of the capital and Senator of the Republic, as well as being a "presidential pre-candidate for the elections to be held in 2026 in Colombia". Therefore, the "National Government, representing the people of Colombia, considers it necessary to pay just and deserved tribute to this illustrious Colombian," adds the decree. E
