Carolina activates the prevention and response committee in the presence of a tropical wave

Santo Domingo. – As a result of the declaration of a yellow alert for the National District, Carolina Mejía activated and put the Disaster Prevention, Mitigation, and Response Committee in permanent session.

The measure seeks to keep all the institutions that are part of the organization active and in permanent communication, in order to prevent situations and provide immediate responses to problems that may arise as a result of the rains from a tropical wave that has a high cyclonic potential.

Mejía affirmed that the main thing is to guarantee the integrity of citizens, taking the relevant measures in the face of any situation resulting from the rains. "We are in permanent session to effectively coordinate the necessary actions to safeguard the safety and well-being of the residents of the National District," he said.

In that sense, the municipal executive urged citizens to stay informed about weather conditions through official agencies.

The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) reported that the air mass covering the national territory remains with considerable humidity and instability due to the incidence of the trough. Therefore, it forecast that there will continue to be cloud cover increases, scattered moderate to heavy showers, thunderstorms, and wind gusts in several demarcations.

In the last few hours, preventive efforts are intensifying, doubling the frequency of the usual tasks during this period of rain. The council's operational brigades, which include personnel, equipment, suction trucks and other vehicles, have been cleaning the filters, drains and curbs at various critical points, among other measures that are ready to be executed if the moment warrants it.

The committee is also made up of the National District Fire Department, Public Works, Public Health, Municipal Police, COE, Civil Defense, Indomet, Digesett, Red Cross and Edesur, among others.
