The State Security Service (SSE) of Georgia arrested Zviad Kuprava, a deputy of the Tbilisi legislative assembly and one of the leaders of the opposition United National Movement (UNM), this Wednesday, accused of calling for a coup during the municipal elections next Saturday.

Kuprava published a video on social media in which he "calls on citizens to sabotage the elections and stage a coup," said SEE Deputy Director Lasha Magradze at a press conference.

The opposition candidate denounced that the municipal elections, which will take place throughout the country, are a "Russian special operation" and announced that opposition groups will try to thwart them.

In the video, he asserts that if the opposition manages to prevent voting in a single polling station, a "domino effect" will occur, which will bring down the Georgian Dream government, the formation founded by the billionaire Bidzina Ivanashvili.
