Santiago.- The heavy rains recorded on the afternoon of this Friday caused flooding in several central streets of Santiago, generating discomfort among citizens and merchants who demand urgent solutions to the vulnerability of the rainwater drainage system in the city.
Among the most affected routes are Vicente Estrella, 16 de Agosto, and Sánchez streets, where flooded homes and businesses were reported. Likewise, the rainfall caused water accumulation in areas such as El Retiro, Circunvalación Avenue, and Las Carreras Avenue, causing serious difficulties in vehicular traffic.
Residents and passersby expressed their concern about the frequency of these floods whenever heavy downpours are recorded.
"We can't keep living with this fear, it rains a little hard and our houses flood," commented one of those affected in the city center.

The situation revived claims to municipal and governmental authorities to execute drainage and urban improvement plans that guarantee a structural response to a problem that, according to complaints, repeats itself every rainy season. So far, local authorities have not offered details on immediate measures to address the damage caused by the rainfall this Friday.
